Parental leave

Parental leave is paid or unpaid leave from work in which parents take to care for their new child. It is also known as “family leave” or, when referring specifically to women or men, “maternity leave" or "paternity leave".

Parental leave policies vary from country to country, ranging from no paid parental leave as in the United States to as much as as 480 days of leave (at 80% of the normal pay) in Sweden, in addition to the 18 weeks reserved for maternity leave.

In addition to legal parental leave policies, companies can offer additional parental leave benefits to create an inclusive, family-friendly work environment. For example, Netflix employees can take up to a year of parental leave (at full pay) following the birth or adoption of their child.
